How To Map A Network Drive?

Prerequisites:

• If you're tele-working or working off site, you must VPN into ALTA's network. Network drives do not work, unless you're connected to ALTA's network.

• If you're physically connected to ALTA's network and don't see the appropriate network drive(s) you can try the following methods.

  • Check Group Policy:

    • Click on Start button on windows and type cmd in the search bar located about the start button and press Enter.

    • A new window should appear with the last line C:\Users\username>. Click on the window, the cursor should appear after the last line. Type gpupdate and press Enter. The computer should start connecting with the group policy server and check the group policy.

    • Once completed, it will prompt saying User Policy update has completed successfully. Computer Policy update has completed successfully.

    • Close the window and check if the network drives appear.

• Second method is to restart the computer. Restarting the computer while connected to the network should re-establish the connection to the network server.

How to map network drives:

1. Click on the Start button and click Computer located on the left menu bar, to view the network drives that maybe connected to your computer.

2. Adding Network Drive (3 options):

   1. On the top menu bar directly below the search bar. There should be a menu option called Map network drive. If Map network drive is there click on it.

   2. If the option is not visible, select the window and type the Alt button. A menu bar should appear underneath the search bar. Click on Tools, then click on Map network drive….

1. With steps a or b, Select the appropriate Drive: (A:, B:, C:, D:, etc…) by searching the drop down list.

   1. Next to the Folder:, type the appropriate address (refer to the table below) and then click the Browse… button.

   2. Locate and select the folder you would like the network drive to map to, and then click OK.

   3. Make sure to check Reconnect at logon (this allows the network drive to save the path, but it will not keep an active the connection to the network drive, it will be disconnected unless you're connected to the network or VPN to ALTA's network).

   4. If the drive is inactive and the connection to the network has already been established. Right click on the drive click Refresh to re-establish connection while connected to the network.

   5. Once the appropriate folder is located, click OK. Then click Finish.

1. With step c, a pop-up window will appear with the "Welcome…Add Network Location Wizard". Click the Next button. Select Choose a custom network location icon (which will highlight the icon), then click Next button.

   1. Type the appropriate path address (refer to the table above) below the Internet or network address: dropdown box and click the Browse… button.

   2. Search for the folder that you would like to set the connection to. Once the appropriate folder is located, click OK. Then click Next.

   3. Then type the name you would like use to name the path (Example: A:, B, under Type a name for this network location, then click Next. On last page make sure to check Open this network location when I click Finish, then click on the Finish button.
