SharePoint is ALTA's cloud-based document and collaboration platform (part of Microsoft 365), enabling staff to store, share, and manage files from anywhere. This page covers the essential actions every ALTA team member needs to get up and running quickly.

Made with DASH A.i.SharePoint gives you a central place to upload, open, share, and manage documents and team sites — all accessible through a browser or desktop app. The table below is your quick-reference guide to the most common tasks.
Microsoft Edge is recommended for SharePoint — it's the only browser that lets you upload entire folders (not just individual files) directly to a document library.
You can drag files from your computer straight into the library, or click Upload on the command bar. In Microsoft Edge, you can upload whole folders in one go.
Uploading via drag-and-drop is the fastest method for bulk files. Make sure you're in the correct library folder before dropping files to avoid mis-filing.
Click any document to open it in Microsoft 365 for the web (browser). If you prefer the full desktop app, click Edit Document → Edit in [application name] to open it locally.
Select the file, click the ellipsis (…) to open its context menu, then click Share. You can share with specific people or generate a link.
Before sharing externally, confirm the document does not contain sensitive client or financial data. When in doubt, check with your manager before granting access.
If you have site owner permissions, navigate to SharePoint or Sites, choose the site you want to share, and click Share. Only site owners can share entire sites — coordinate with your IT admin if you need ownership elevated.
Libraries are best for document storage; Lists work well for tracking tasks, contacts, or structured data (like checklists or issue logs).
SharePoint automatically tracks version history when versioning is enabled.
Version history is your safety net. If a document is accidentally overwritten or corrupted, you can restore a previous version without contacting IT.
Type a keyword into the Search box at the top of the page and click the Search icon. Search works across the current site or across all of SharePoint depending on where you initiate it.
Search in SharePoint indexes file names, metadata, and content inside documents — so searching for a client name or project number can surface relevant files even if you don't remember the exact file name.
