Preservation & Document Retention – Where to Store Your Files
Storage Locations
- Local Desktop (discouraged)
- Local C: (discouraged)
- Shared Drive (G:)
- OneDrive ("OneDrive – American Land Title Association" in File Explorer). OneDrive is designed to be a storage location for "one" user's files – files you may need to keep or work on, but not share or make available for collaboration with others. If a user decides to share a file after it's refined and finalized, the file can be moved to a Teams or SharePoint location.
- Teams ("Files" in Microsoft Chats or Teams – if a Team, files can also be found in SharePoint). Files in Teams are intended to be shared for collaboration and multi-user access, including simultaneous access. These files can be shared with users across ALTA's Microsoft 365 "Tenant" which includes all ALTA Users and Guests.
- SharePoint ("American Land Title Association" in File Explorer). You can visit the SharePoint sites by visiting https://www.office.com and logging in with your Microsoft 365 credentials. If you'd like to access files through File Explorer on your desktop, choose "Sync" to synchronize files between SharePoint and File Explorer.
Backups
- ALTA's Managed Service Provider conducts full backups of data stored in Microsoft 365 or Shared Drive locations. Local Desktop and Drives are not backed up.
