Overview
This document outlines the step-by-step process for setting up microsites for ALTA meetings in WordPress. It details the essential tasks and best practices to ensure each site is correctly configured and functional.
- Initial Setup
When creating a new microsite for an ALTA meeting, ensure that the following foundational elements are configured:
-
Title: Set the title of the microsite to reflect the specific meeting (e.g., "ALTA One 2024").
-
Date Range: Define the date range for the meeting. This is crucial for sorting and filtering sessions correctly.
-
Time Zone: Set the appropriate local time zone for the event. All session times will be based on this setting.
- Session Configuration
Each session within the microsite must be configured with the following:
-
Session Title: Clearly define the session title.
-
Date and Time: Assign the specific date and time for each session. Ensure this is done in the local time zone set during the initial setup.
-
Meeting Assignment: Each session must be linked to the specific meeting (e.g., "ALTA One 2024"). This is done through the Meeting checkbox in the session's settings panel on the lower right-hand side.
- Required Fields
Every session entry must include the following four fields to ensure proper integration and visibility:
-
Title
-
Date
-
Time
-
Meeting Assignment
If any of these fields are missing, the session will not appear correctly in schedules, filters, or other relevant sections of the site.
- Filter and Sorting Options
Filters and sorting options are essential for managing sessions and pages effectively:
-
Filtering by Meeting: Use the filter options to display sessions for a specific meeting only. This is critical when working with multiple events.
-
Sorting by Date: Sort sessions by date to ensure the most current sessions appear at the top. This can be set globally but might need adjustment depending on user preference.
- Bulk Editing
While bulk editing can be a powerful tool for making changes to multiple sessions or pages at once, it should be used with caution:
-
Bulk Edit Capabilities: You can apply changes to multiple sessions (e.g., adding a type or tag) by selecting the sessions and choosing the bulk edit option.
-
Risks: Incorrect bulk edits can lead to data inconsistencies. Always verify changes before saving.
- Regular Updates and Maintenance
-
Session Updates: Regularly update session details as changes occur. Ensure that any new sessions added are correctly linked to the meeting and have the required fields filled out.
-
Page Content: Keep pages up to date with the latest information, including schedules, speaker bios, and registration details.
- Backup and Recovery
-
Daily Backups: The system performs daily backups. However, in the event of an accidental deletion or major error, it's preferable to manually correct the issue rather than revert to a backup, unless absolutely necessary.
-
Trash Recovery: Deleted sessions can often be recovered from the trash. If a session is missing or incorrectly deleted, check the trash before considering a full site backup recovery.
