Short Description: The Four Questions Asked During Join and Renew processes determine the correct membership type for a customer and also determine whether or not the Policy Forms License requirement applies.
Business Rules:
- Membership – The Four Questions. The four questions designed to place an Organization in the correct category for Membership Prospecting or Policy Forms License Compliance are shown at Account>Additional Info>Custom Info>Membership
- Join. When a new member Joins ALTA, they are prompted to answer these question on the ALTA website.
- Renew. Each year during the renewal process, an ALTA member is prompted to review and answer or update this information on the ALTA website
- Staff Users. A Staff User may answer or update this information at any time. See Account>Additional Info>Custom Info>Membership
Tips | Tricks | Hints:
- If a member answers the Four Questions and does NOT see a product for renewal, that probably means that their answers place them in a different membership category and they will need to use the JOIN process. Instructions have been added to the website to point them to the JOIN pages.

- The first question determines the type of company which is joining/renewing membership.
- The second question will determine whether or not a company is required to have a policy forms license. If they do write title insurance, their membership will be accompanied by a Policy Forms License (note that the PFL as a member benefit is actually a PFL of its own now). If they choose not to be a member, they will be on the list of companies subject to the Policy Forms License requirement. The number of transactions will determine eligibility to apply for a waiver of the Policy Forms License fee.
- The third question determines if the company holds an Errors & Omissions (E&O) policy through TIAC. If they do, the are required to hold an ALTA membership. In addition, TIAC insureds with revenue up to $100,000 are eligible for dues discounts.
- The fourth question requests the company’s gross revenue which will help calculate dues for the member types with dues amounts which vary depending on revenue.
